I grew up in Chicago where the food is heavily influenced by Polish, German and Italian cooking. I also developed a love of cooking from my grandmother who was a fabulous baker.
As an adult, I have been fortunate to travel overseas and dine in some of the world's finest restaurants, such as Le Louis XV (Monaco), La Chèvre D'Or (Eze Village, France), Le Cinq and L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon (Paris and Tokyo). Unlike the typical restaurant goer, I didn't just eat and leave. When possible, I asked the chefs and wait staff how they selected their produce and other food items. I also asked how certain dishes were prepared. I was hooked.
I took a couple of cooking classes at schools in Europe, including L'École Ritz Escoffier in Paris. I attended more classes, including some at the Epicurean School of Culinary Arts in Los Angeles. Henceforth, my cooking journey had started.
Over time, I constantly reworked and re-evaluated the recipes of those different cultures with those closer to home in Los Angeles. I felt that with the right ingredients, resourcefulness and practicality, one could create mouth-watering dishes at home that weren't complicated or time-consuming to make. Best of all, it is possible to have a three Michelin star experience without having to travel overseas!
I want to inspire people to cook more at home by showing that cooking is fun and relaxing. It's like creating a work of art that you get to eat!
